For UAE learners at the start of a cybersecurity career, the first big fork in the road is: SEC-100 (OffSec CyberCore Security Essentials) or CEH (EC-Council Certified Ethical Hacker). Both are beginner-friendly, but they pull you towards different long-term tracks and UAE employer pools. This guide helps Dubai and Abu Dhabi beginners pick the right first step in 2026.
Quick summary
- SEC-100: OffSec’s fundamentals-first course — hands-on, practical, sets up OSCP later.
- CEH: EC-Council’s breadth-first credential — recognised by every UAE HR filter, sets up CPENT and CHFI later.
What SEC-100 (CyberCore Security Essentials) covers
SEC-100 introduces the OffSec philosophy — “try harder,” methodology, practical lab work — at an accessible level. Modules include networking fundamentals, Linux and Windows basics, scripting introductions, web application basics, and an introduction to offensive and defensive concepts. It is the prerequisite that builds the discipline OffSec expects at OSCP.

What CEH v12 covers
CEH is broader: 20 modules covering reconnaissance through system hacking, malware, sniffing, social engineering, DoS, cloud, IoT and OT. Exam is an MCQ (125 questions, 4 hours) with an optional practical add-on. It is the UAE’s shorthand for “entry-level ethical hacker” on recruiter filters.

Which is right for your UAE target role?
- Target: SOC L1, GRC support, IT security admin in UAE banks/telcos/gov. → Start with CEH. HR screens on it.
- Target: future pentester, red-team, consulting role. → Start with SEC-100 → OSCP. Builds practical discipline.
- Unsure or career-pivoter from a non-IT background. → SEC-100 first for foundations, then CEH for HR recognition.
Hybrid strategy: do both
Many of our Dubai cohorts stack both: SEC-100 in months 1–2 (foundations + methodology), CEH in months 3–4 (HR filter + breadth). This combination opens SOC analyst doors and sets the runway for OSCP within 12–18 months.
Cost and time (AED, 2026 estimates)
- SEC-100: AED 2,000–4,000 depending on subscription mode.
- CEH (ATC bundle with voucher): AED 4,000–6,500.
- Time: SEC-100 4–8 weeks self-paced · CEH 4–8 weeks instructor-led + prep.
Delivery formats across Dubai and Abu Dhabi

FAQs — SEC-100 vs CEH
Do UAE employers recognise SEC-100? Specialists do; HR recruiters recognise CEH more uniformly. Pair them for maximum reach.
Is SEC-100 easier than CEH? Different shape — SEC-100 is practical with smaller scope; CEH is wider with more to memorise.
Can I take both at the same time? Yes, but most learners get better outcomes doing them in sequence.
